Ridiculously cool/random story of how O.J. Mayo decided to go to USC

When Floyd answered the phone, he heard a teenager’s voice on the other end: “Coach, this is O. J. Mayo. I’d like to come to your school.”

Mayo had not been on an official campus visit. He had not seen the new arena, the Galen Center. He did not know anything about the current roster.

Floyd did not believe it was possible to get a verbal commitment from a player he had recruited for less than one day, especially when that player was a 6-foot-5 sharpshooter with blue-chip strength, quickness and passing ability.

Zero Hero

Is Zero the new Twenty Three?

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Aaron Brooks averaged more than 17 points a game for the Oregon Ducks this season, led the Pacific-10 conference in scoring and helped his team capture a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

But deep down, he is still a zero.

"I'm proud of that," Brooks said. "I look around college basketball this year, and I see zeroes all over the place."

He was referring not to the players themselves, but to the number on their jerseys. No. 0, which used to be assigned mainly to mascots, now has become standard issue for college stars.

More Proof (Like You Need Any) That College Polls Are an Absolute Joke

Maryland (24-7) swept Duke (22-9) this season. In fact, the Terps also have a higher RPI (12; Duke is 14) and are 9-6 vs. the Top 50, while Duke is just 8-9. The Blue Devils have struggled of late, going 4-6; Maryland is finishing strong, having won eight of its last 10.

Still, six AP voters ranked Duke ahead of Maryland – with two clueless fools even leaving the Terps out of the Top 25.

Baltimore Sun columnist Rick Maese decided to find out who these assclowns were.

Bill Gramatica still sucks

Gramatica is back in the kicking game, but things still aren't going too well for him. He's now with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League, and on Friday night he went 0-for-4 on extra points. Yes, it's true that the goal posts are narrower in Arena Football, making the kicks harder, but still: These were extra points. Even with the narrower goal posts, Arena Football kickers make 90 percent of their extra points.
